Pakistan Voices Concern Amid Rising Iran-US Tensions
ISLAMABAD:
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Thursday spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, expressing concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East following renewed US threats against Iran.
A statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Dar emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path forward. Both leaders agreed to stay in close contact as the situation unfolds.
The diplomatic exchange comes as Washington has increased its military presence in the region, with multiple US warships reportedly moving toward the Gulf. President Trump has warned Tehran of severe consequences if it does not return to negotiations, fueling fears of a potential military confrontation.
Iran, for its part, has rejected US threats and signaled a decisive response to any attack, putting its forces on high alert. Officials warned that any aggression could destabilize the region, including critical maritime routes.
Pakistan has consistently called for restraint and de-escalation, noting that conflict in the Middle East could have serious repercussions for both regional and global stability. Islamabad stresses that coercion and force will deepen tensions, while sustained diplomacy offers the only path to lasting peace.
The Dar–Araghchi conversation highlights Pakistan’s efforts to remain diplomatically engaged with key regional stakeholders amid growing uncertainty over Washington’s next moves and Tehran’s response.
