India becomes UAE's largest LNG customer, signs $3 billion deal
India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a $3 billion LNG deal, making India the UAE's largest customer.
The deal was signed during a meeting between UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his brief visit to India.
The two leaders also pledged to increase bilateral trade to $200 billion within six years and establish a strategic defense partnership.
Under the LNG deal, Abu Dhabi's state-owned company will supply India with 500,000 metric tons of LNG every year for 10 years. According to the company, its total deals with India have now crossed $20 billion.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's delegation was also accompanied by his defense minister and foreign minister.
The two countries also signed a letter of intent aimed at moving towards establishing a strategic defense partnership.
