Welsh Horror Moves North: Smoking Ban Forces Filming Shift
A horror movie about mythical Welsh fairies was filmed in North Yorkshire after strict no-smoking laws on Welsh film sets made key scenes impossible to shoot authentically.
Director Bryn Chainey said the main characters, played by Dev Patel and Rosy McEwen, are chain smokers—essential to the story.
A Welsh government spokesperson confirmed that smoking is banned on sets, but guidance on specially adapted e-cigarettes had been offered.
In England, however, the British Film Commission allows exemptions for actors required to smoke for a role.
