Adani Enters Commercial Aircraft Manufacturing with Embraer Partnership
NEW DELHI, Jan 27 (Reuters) – India’s Adani Group and Brazil’s Embraer SA have agreed to collaborate on setting up a regional transport aircraft venture in India, marking Adani’s entry into commercial aircraft manufacturing.
The move strengthens Adani’s aviation portfolio—which already includes airport operations and a growing defence and aerospace business—while supporting India’s broader ambition to expand domestic aircraft manufacturing across assembly, components, and supply chains.
In a joint statement, the companies said they signed a memorandum of understanding to explore cooperation in aircraft manufacturing, supply chain development, aftermarket services, and pilot training. Financial details were not disclosed.
“India is a pivotal market for Embraer, and this partnership combines our aerospace expertise with Adani’s strong industrial capabilities,” said Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation.
Embraer, the world’s third-largest aircraft manufacturer after Airbus and Boeing, specialises in regional jets with seating capacity of 70 to 140 passengers. Its E2 aircraft family competes with Airbus’s A220, while operating below the larger narrow-body segment dominated by Airbus and Boeing.
Currently assembling its commercial jets exclusively in Brazil, Embraer has been seeking to deepen its presence in India. The company previously partnered with Mahindra on the C-390 military transport aircraft.
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Brazil last year, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said Embraer aimed to strengthen its India footprint through strategic partnerships.
